Warhawk women fall

— Free throws proved to be the downfall Thursday night for UW-Whitewater’s women’s basketball team in a battle for second place in the WIAC.

UW-La Crosse made 28 of 33 free throws in pulling away for a 73-66 victory over the host Warhawks, lfting the Eagles (16-5, 9-3) into the No. 2 spot and dropped Whitewater (16-4, 9-3) to third.


Whitewater got 17 points from Dana Thompson and 13 from Chantel Burg, but no other players reached double figures.


Taylor Larson and Dana Churchill combined for 39 points for the Eagles, who outscored the Warhawks 45-38 in the second half.
