McFarland starts fast, other scores

A torrid start carried McFarland High School’s boys basketball team to a pivotal Rock Valley Conference victory Thursday night.


The Spartans had a 25-10 lead over Clinton after one quarter and cruised to a 70-51 Rock Valley crossover win.


McFarland (13-4, 10-1) moved within a half-game of idle East Troy (10-0) in the Rock Valley North standings. Despite the loss, Clinton (13-3, 9-2) remained in first place in the South.


Brett Kaether led three Spartans in double figures with 12 points. James Runde added 11 for McFarland, and Tyler Weidel chipped in 10.


Justin Langley paced the Cougars with 14 points, while Aaron Roth added 13.

-- Evansville 51, Palmyra-Eagle 30—Adam Stamm scored seven of his 15 points in the third quarter when Evansville pulled away from visiting Palmyra-Eagle for a Rock Valley crossover win.


The Blue Devils (9-7, 6-5 in the Rock North) led 24-14 at halftime, and then used a 15-7 third quarter to put the game out of reach. Casey Moseley added 13 points for Evansville, which played without Dylan Erickson.


Kevin McGivern led the Panthers (4-11, 2-9) with 18 points, including three three-pointers.
