Fort Atkinson collects own tourney title

Fort Atkinson's boys basketball team enjoyed a little home cooking Thursday.


The Blackhawks opened up a nine-point halftime lead and hung on for a 63-60 win over Lakeside Lutheran in the championship game of the Fort Atkinson Holiday Tournament.


Alex Bakken had 13 points to lead Fort Atkinson (7-2), while Tanner Boos and Jordan Strasburg added 10 points each.


Caleb Gardner had 18 points for Lakeside, which missed two game-tying shots in the final 10 seconds.

-- Lake Mills 57, Big Foot 41—Kenneth Walker scored a game-high 16 points for the Chiefs, but the L-Cats pulled away early in the semifinal game of the Lake Mills Tournament.


Big Foot (1-8), which trailed 29-11 at half, plays Orfordville Parkview in the consolation championship today.

Elkhorn limited the Cheesemakers to four second-half baskets but could not overcome the free throws.


Brent Newman had 14 points, and Drew Bryson added 10 for the Elks (3-5). Elkhorn jumped to a 7-1 lead.


The Elks play Monona Grove at 5 p.m. today.


Alex Barenklau led Monroe with 15 points.
