— The Janesville Bluebirds ended 2011 on a high note.

Janesville's high school boys co-op team shut out Waukesha Catholic Memorial, 4-0 on Thursday, in finishing 2-1 at the Waukesha Holiday Tournament.

Connor Perkins scored twice for Janesville (8-4), while goalie Michael MacDougall stopped all 19 shots he faced in earning the shutout win.

"I'm hoping this made us a better team heading into the second half of the season," Janesville coach John Mauermann said of the Bluebirds' performance in the three-day tournament. "We made a couple of adjustments coming in, and I really thought we got good production from all three of our lines.

"Today, it was a matter of playing out in front and not letting up. And when Michael is pitching a shutout, that helps, too."

Connor Perkins and Bradan Perkins scored first-period goals to put the Bluebirds up 2-0, and Connor Perkins made it 3-0 in the second with a power -play goal. D.J. Mussey concluded the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 16:41 of the third.

Janesville plays Madison Memorial in a Big Eight Conference game Thursday night.
