Lancers stop Craig

Madison La Follette used free throws to overcome a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit and defeat visiting Janesville Craig, 71-68, in a Big Eight Conference boys basketball game Thursday night.


The Lancers made 13 of 21 free throws in the final quarter.


The Cougars (1-4 in the Big Eight, 1-7 overall) jumped to an eight-point advantage in the first quarter, but the Lancers overcame that and led, 21-19, going into the second.


Junior forward Paul Foster led the Cougars with 20 points. Troy Malmanger added 12 points, Peter Roth had 11 and Brett Pickarts 10 for Craig.


The Lancers (3-2, 4-3) used nine three-point goals. Matt Hunter scored 27 points for La Follette before he fouled out.


Hunter was one of five players to foul out, which included 24 fouls by each team.
