Craig, Parker gymnasts lose

— Janesville Craig High School opened the Big Eight Conference gymnastics season Thursday with a 138.8-136.775 loss to Middleton.

"I'm very happy with the girls performance," Craig coach Jean Welch said. "The girls improved their routines.''


Ashley Pohlman, a junior, and her sister, Courtney, a sophomore, finished second and third, respectively, in the all-around.


Ashley finished second in the vault (9.3), fourth in bars (7.925), fourth in balance beam (8.825) and third in floor exercise (8.925). Courtney finished third in the vault (8.7), second in the bars (8.7), and third in the balance beam (8.875).

-- Verona/Edgewood 131.50, Parker 127.85—Hailey Leisten finished first in the uneven bars and balance beam, but Parker lost to Verona/Madison Edgewood.


Leisten was first in the uneven bars with a 8.65 score, and on the balance beam with a 8.45. She tied for first in the all-around with a 35.10.


Brecklyn Skaleski added a first-place finish in the floor exercise for Parker with an 8.9.


Parker coach Cathy Lehmann said she was encouraged by the Vikings' improvement.
