UW-Whitewater men fall for first time

— Chris Davis scored a game-high 41 points Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as visiting UW-Whitewater suffered its first loss of the season, 79-77, to UW-Stevens Point in WIAC men's basketball.

Whitewater, ranked No. 13 in the D3Hoops poll, is 3-1 in the WIAC and 8-1 overall. Stevens Point is 3-0 in the WIAC and 7-2 overall.


The Warhawks were up 48-42 with 15 minutes remaining after trailing 36-33 at the half. Point rallied and took the lead for good, 56-53, on Austin Ryf's three-point basket with 10:30 to play.


Dan Tillema's three increased Point's lead to 70-60 with 6:24 remaining and Point was up 79-70 with 3:11 remaining.


The Warhawks pulled to within a basket on Quardell Young's bucket with 1:54 left, but could get no closer. Whitewater missed three straight shots down the stretch, including Alex Merg's three-point attempt with two seconds remaining.


Dan Tillema scored 35 points for Point and teammates Trevor Hass and Tyler Tillema added 17 and 16 points, respectively. Whitewater's Eric Bryson and Luke Noble scored 10 points apiece.
