WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on new rules proposed for child labor on Wisconsin's family farms

RSS

A long standing tradition on Wisconsin's family farms may be in jeopardy and a local state representative wants it protected.

Assemblyman Evan Wynn of Whitewater says the federal Department of Labor wants to extend child labor laws to agriculture. The Republican calls that wrong. He says farms are not factories in part because parents teach, and work along side, their children. He also says working on a farm is an incredible learning experience for children.

He has joined a bipartisan effort in sending a letter to Congress, asking the new rules be reconsidered.
