Janesville Craig’s wrestling team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday.

Thanks to pins from Jacob Wilson, Zach Kurtz and Dakota Pearson, the Cougars pulled away for a 54-22 nonconference win over defending Rock Valley Conference champion Clinton.

Craig, which won five matches by forfeit, wrestled well at the Cooney Duals last Saturday but finished 0-4.

“It’s always nice to get a win, no matter if it’s conference or not,” Craig coach Mark Mullen said.

“Clinton was a little short in numbers tonight, but the wrestlers they did put on the mat were solid.”

Clinton got wins from Spencer Shea, Tim Clothier, Nate McConnell, Brady Austin and Mitch Wellnitz.

Craig hosts Madison Memorial in a Big Eight match Thursday night.
