UW-Rock County women roll to victory, men lose

RICHLAND CENTER — UW-Rock County women’s basketball team came to life in the second half Monday to post a 53-33 victory over host UW-Richland in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference action.

The Rattlers improved to 6-2 in the WCC and 7-5 overall.

Lindsey Oliver scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, and Danielle Heldt scored eight of her 13 points after the break to lead the Rattlers to a 33-18 second-half edge and the victory.

“They (Richland) had not won a game yet, and we played down to their level in the first half,” UW-Rock coach Scott Lee said. “We got the ball inside in the second half and played much better.’’

UW-Rock travels to WCC-leader UW-Marshfield for a game 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

UW-Rock men lose

UW-Richland’s late run sent visiting UW-Rock County to a 65-60 defeat Monday in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference men’s basketball.

The loss drops the Rattlers to 2-2 in the WCC and 3-9 overall.

UW-Rock took a 59-55 lead with three minutes remaining, but Richland clicked off a 10-0 run to seal the victory.

“The bottom fell out,” said coach Scott Lee. “We could not do anything right.’’

Jordan Conway scored 16 points for the Rattlers. Andy Hanis added 12 points, and Joe Benson had 10 points and 19 rebounds for UW-Rock.

The Rattlers travel to WCC-leading UW-Marshfield at

7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
