Verona/Mount Horeb tops Craig

Host Verona/Mount Horeb defeated Janesville Craig, 99-71, Friday in the Cougars’ first boys swimming meet of the season.

Craig coach Brian Kitzman said he was happy with his team’s performance despite the team score.

“It was a very competitive meet throughout,” said Kitzman, who added that Verona has a meter pool. Most high school pools are measured in yards, and Kitzman said meter pools are about six yards longer per 100.

“A lot of our guys swam well,” he said.

Craig recorded several second-place finishes: Jimmy Loftus (200, 400 freestyle); Travis Condon (200 individual medley); Tad Martin (100 freestyle); Nick Krueger (100 backstroke); and Zach Boutelle (100 breastroke).

Craig hosts the Cougar Relays starting at 10 a.m. today. The Cougars will be joined by Parker, Elkhorn and Menomonee Falls/Hamilton/Germantown.
