— Janesville Parker High School hammered Madison Memorial, 71-31, in a Big Eight Conference girls basketball opener Friday at Memorial.

Coming off a victory over fourth-ranked Milwaukee King, the Vikings rolled to a 29-17 first half lead. Parker settled the issue with a 22-6 third quarter for a 51-23 lead.

“We played a lot better in the second half,” Parker coach Tom Klawitter said.

While the Vikings are off to a 2-0 start, Klawitter said it’s too early to draw rave reviews.

“It’s early,” Klawitter said. “We’ve had three weeks of practice and that’s not a whole lot of practice time, but it’s nice to start 2-0.

Courtney Schumacher scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter as Parker rolled to a 16-9 lead. Schumacher was the only Viking to reach double figures.

The Vikings held the Spartans to single digits in each quarter. No one scored in double figures for Memorial.
