— So far, four people have indicated they plan to run for three seats on the Janesville School Board in April.

Only one of the potential candidates is an incumbent, so it appears the nine-member board will have at least two new faces.

Lori Stottler and DuWayne Severson have said they are not running for re-election.

Thursday was the beginning of the 34-day period in which candidates can collect signatures on their nomination petitions for the April 3 elections.

All the potential candidates have children in Janesville public schools. They are all from the east side of Janesville, as are eight of the nine current board members.

Here are some key facts about those who have taken out papers to run for school board:

-- Greg Ardrey, 45, of 25 Sauk Court, Janesville. He is a manager for Alliant Energy. He was appointed to the school board in July 2008 and elected to a three-year term in 2009.

-- Jack Champeau, 34, of 4522 Southwyck Drive, Janesville. He works for UW-Platteville as manager of the engineering program at UW-Rock County in Janesville. He has never run for public office. He is president of the governing board of the Janesville Virtual Academy, the school districtís online high school.

-- David Distefano, 38, of 1614 Heather Court, Janesville, whose announcement appeared in a prior article.

-- Deborah Schilling, 35, of 4208 Valencia Drive, Janesville. She is sales manager for Ojibway Enclosure Systems in Janesville. She has not run for public office before.

Residents who want to run for Janesville School Board have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, to turn in candidacy papers, including nominating petitions containing at least 100 but no more than 200 signatures.

Forms and other information are available from Nancy Hewes, assistant board clerk, at (608) 743-5056 or nhewes@janesville.k12.wi.us.
