Janesville soccer teams suffer shutouts

— Janesville Craig tightened up in the second half, but it too late in a 4-0 loss Tuesday to Verona in Big Eight Conference boys soccer.

The Cougars trailed 3-0 after the first half.

“We did better in the second half,” Craig coach Charles Friedrich said. “It’s the third game where we started slow and turned around it the second.’’

Peter Cooney was heroic in goal for the Cougars, making 17 saves.

Craig (0-2, 3-3-1) hosts Sun Prairie at 7 p.m. Thursday.

-- Middleton 8, Parker 0—Nick Lund and Derek Ott had hat tricks to lead the visiting Cardinals to the Big Eight win over Janesville Parker.

Parker (0-4-1, 0-2) had one shot on goal.

“The score may not show it, but I thought we improved from our last game, and that is always the goal,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “We learned enough that hopefully we can use that to be more competive down the road.”

The Vikings play at Beloit Memorial on Thursday night.
