Janesville Parker golfers looks to mix with league leaders
“We should be in contention for the conference title,” she said.
So far, the Vikings have done nothing to make Ross change her prediction.
Parker pocketed a three-stroke victory over defending league champ Middleton, tied for second at the Beloit Scramble and finished tied for fourth at the Milton Best Ball Tournament.
“I excited about the group,” Ross said. “They are very supportive of one another.’’
Ross said she has the Vikings sharpening up their short game in an effort to shave strokes.
“The short game is where it’s at,” Ross said. “We are working on those skills.’’
Parker relies on seniors Taylor Utzig, Maggie O’Leary and Nicole Fugate. Utzig holds the No. 1 spot and averages between 88 and 85.
Ross said the seniors need a boost from a strong sophomore class.
“There are seven players in the mix,” Ross said. “The seniors do a good job of working with the sophomores.”
The sophomores are Lindsey Ahrens, Katherine Connell, Micayla Richards and Taylor Wyss.
“These kids have the potential to break into the 80s,” Ross said. “They are working on their shot-making skills.’’
Ross said Madison Memorial, Sun Prairie and Verona are the Vikings’ key opponents in the Big Eight race.
“The conference is tight this year,” Ross said. “It’s going to depend on who has prepared the most.’’
A strong short game may take the Parker a long way.
