Janesville Craig, Parker win Big Eight tennis matches

Janesville Craig’s girls tennis team picked up its first Big Eight Conference win Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars, thanks to a sweep in doubles, cruised past Sun Prairie, 5-2.

Craig (1-2) got wins from Kaylee Rossing and Leah Voskuil in singles, along with Sarah Gray and Brooke Negus, Kenzie Trappe and Hayley Hughes, and Brandie Farrell and Ashley Johnson in doubles.

“We moved the lineup around a little bit, and it worked out well,” Craig coach Bill Peyer said. “It’s always nice to get a win in our conference.”

Craig hosts Beloit Memorial on Tuesday.

Doubles: Sarah Gray-Brooke Negus (JC) def. Kaitlyn Perry-Brianna Stier, 6-1, 6-0; Brandie Farrell-Ashley Johnson (JC) def. Serena Hanson-Sierra Henson, 6-0, 6-4; Kenzie Trappe-Hayley Hughes (JC) def. Alexis Belshaw-McKenna Kvupa, 6-2, 6-0.

-- Parker 5, Beloit 2—Led by the unbeaten No. 1 doubles team of Maddie Theisen and Kristin Zeilinger, Janesville Parker coasted to a Big Eight Conference win over Beloit Memorial.

Theisen and Zeilinger improved to 8-0 on the season with a straight-set win.

Meghann Holt and Emma Frerichs won at singles for Parker. Karissa Haney and Rosalie Sellman, along with Ashley Lindsey and Elizabeth Severance won their doubles matches.

“I was a little concerned because we had a week off, but the girls came out and played pretty well,” Parker coach Justin Long said. “Hopefully, this match will kick-start us for our quad this weekend.

“We need to continue to do the small things on the court and good things will happen.”

Sauk Prairie, Oregon and Delavan-Darien will compete in the Parker Quadrangular on Saturday.
