Fort Atkinson High School’s football team turned Reedsburg turnovers into a major Blackhawk victory Friday night.

The Blackhawks recovered four of the Beavers’ eight fumbles and pulled away in the fourth quarter to win a nonconference opener, 16-6, over the traditional Badger North power, which won a state championship two years ago.

Fort Atkinson broke a 6-6 tie when Marie Fitzgerald kicked a 22-yard field goal with 9:21 remaining. That capped a drive set up by Beau Nelson’s fumble recovery.

After Jesse Garcia’s fumble recovery, Drew Dinkleberger fired a 32-yard touchdown pass to Shiloh Weber for the clinching score.
