— Dense undergrowth in a wooded area of rural Rock County hampered a search for two people wanted in connection with a drug investigation.

The pair are still at large.

According to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Department:

At 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, drug and gang investigators from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, the Beloit Police Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office asked for help in locating a man and a woman who fled from officers.

Officers had tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 51, but it turned east onto Sherman Road. The road ends near a densely wooded area.

The pair fled from the car into the woods.

Officers from Rock County, Janesville, Beloit, the town of Beloit and the Wisconsin State Patrol surrounded the area.

K-9 units were brought in to assist with the search, as was an airplane from the Wisconsin State Patrol, according to the news release.

Cmdr. Troy Knudson from the Rock County Sheriff's Office said the search included the wooded area and fields around Sunny Lane, which is south of Sherman Road.

The dense brush and undergrowth in the woods made searching difficult, he said.

Officers and K-9s searched the area for approximately eight hours without success, the news release said.

Officers spoke to residents and businesses in the area to acquire further information, Knudson said.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding the case should contact Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro at (815) 319-6416 or the Rock County Communications Center at (608) 757-2244.
