Ryan bows out on select committee

The powerful joint Senate-House super committee, being formed to make tough choices about massive federal budget cuts, will have to do its work without Congressman Paul Ryan of Janesville.

The Republican has asked not to be considered for appointment. Ryan has already taken criticism for proposing fundamental changes to Medicare.

He says he'll do his deficit reduction work as chair of the House Budget Committee.
