Raptors survive close call

— The Milton Junction Pub Raptors survived a perilous ninth inning Sunday to defeat visiting Laurel Tavern, 3-2, in Rock River League baseball.

Raptors starter Sean McCann walked the bases loaded in the ninth inning and walked in a run that cut the Raptors' lead to 3-2. Reliever Zach Bayreuther, Janesville Craig High graduate, came on got the out that ended the game.

"Zach threw strikes and got a ground out," Raptors coach Doug Welch said. "It was a big save for us.''

Milton scored all its runs in the seventh inning. Matt Fredrick, Joe Shere and Josh Shere delivered three straight singles to start the inning.

Tom Scalissi hit a RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game, 1-1. John Kas got an RBI single, and Tyler Allison added an RBI single to give Milton a

3-1 lead.

In making his debut for the Raptors, McCann notched nine strikeouts.

"McCann walked nine, but he threw strikes when he had to," Welch said.

Milton (10-7) had eight hits off Laurel Tavern starter Matt Krueger, who held Milton to one hit in a 1-0 loss to the Raptors earlier this season.
