WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin's disdain for debt deal

RSS

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin is critical of the recent deal to increase the federal debt limit.

The Democrat tells "Your Talk Show" on WCLO Radio, the issue was a manuractured crisis. She says the real crisis is the need for jobs. Baldwin says if she could deal directly with the nation's debt, the first thing she would do is close corporate tax loopholes.

She says the debt deal took the country in exactly the wrong direction.

You're calling us "right-wing loons" and you believe this? Wow I don't know how to explain sanity to anyone who is so far from reality.

freedom link the discretionary spending fact. I find that hard to believe since the defecit was 1.13 trillion when Obummer took office, now its 1.41, hardly an 84% increase.
"According to the White House Office of Management and Budget's historical tables, discretionary spending will go from roughly $1.13 trillion in the 2008 fiscal year (Bush's last full year budget) to $1.41 trillion in 2010. That's a roughly 24 percent increase."

So they have more money to...drumroll....move more jobs to Vietnam, Taiwan, mexico, and China. Yeah holy corporations create jobs, just not here anymore.

youkillme, huh? That statement does not make sense. Under Obumma's "leadership", descretionary spending has increased 84%, stimulses will increase taxes on everyone, because they did not get us out of the recession. The "shovel ready" jobs never materialized neither. And coming from the NY Times, they try to lie to make things rosy when they are not.

Dems and Libs, even if you believe it, and even if you succeed, "raising taxes and closing loopholes on millionaires, billionares, and corporate jet owners" does nothing re the debt. Even if you collect without screwing up the economy more than it is, your talking about raising billions to solve a problem that is TRILLIONS in size! It will be a shared sacrifice because we'll all be BROKE.

unclesmoothie you will have to ask ALEC about the taxes on the "little guy". They are the ones trying to keep him little, or out-right eliminate them as possible competition.
The new distribution law that works against small breweries comes to mind.

Why does Harry Reid fight for mining companies to take gold and silver off of public lands without paying anything for it? The oil companies have to pay when their product comes off of public lands. Hmmmm.....
And all of the people on here want to talk about GIANT corporations. What about the small timers with with 10 to 50 employees? I agree that big business needs to pay more, much more. But it seems all of the corporate taxes kill the REAL small businessman. Look around at all the small shops that are empty and rotting.

She obviously doesnt get basic economics....

If you cause corporations to pay more in taxes, especially in the current climate. They must still meet their goals for profitability, to increase shareholder (stakeholder value). This means they will either lower wages, trim headcount and ask for more from each employee, or move overseas. If you close the option of relocation, you get one of the 1st 2 choices. Its simple math that progressives and lefties just cant grasp.

Nice post kid. Why would big oil companies need tax loops? Why7 would republicans endorse that logic? I missed something. Repubs - seriously - educate me on big oil tax loops - good or bad - they are raking in the dough already so why?

kid, maybe they don't directly reference tax burden, but it all affects net profits. If what you say were true then the inverse must be true, right?

"Net profits are down 30% so let's tighten the belt and eliminate 50 jobs." That is a direct quote from no one. Ever.... Oh wait. Actually it is a direct quote from someone.

Tammy Baldwin is a co-sponsor of the H.R. 1265: Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act. This act would effectively terminate one of the most used corporate loopholes allowing the use of offshore tax havens and abusive tax shelters to avoid Federal taxation. This Act would prevent 83 out 100 U.S. corporations from dodging taxes. Baldwin's name is on that petition. It's time some Republicans share in that sacrifice and put their names down for support. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd...

Corporations don't pay taxes because that money is reserved for the CEO's. Golden parachutes, obscene stock options, retirement medical, traditional retirement plan. Things dirty laborers don't deserve. Remember $250,000 is really not that much money darling.

Well said "thekid"! Demand for a product or service will cause business owners to hire more people, not a change in taxes being paid. If nobody can afford the product or service, the demand isn't there and the company would have no reason to hire additional employees!

Who in their right mind would dare to start a small business these days? With all of the government regulations and forced health care, along with Wisconsin's sky high tax rates you would go belly up in less than two years. I am tired of politicians crying that there are not enough jobs and then turn around and strip away every last incentive there is to start one. "Make more money so we can take it away from you!". Where is the motivation for the small business people?

She says the real crisis is the need for jobs. But then says the first thing she would do is close corporate loopholes, which would increase taxes paid by corporations.

Seems like an oxymoron. Whether you agree with the loopholes or not, increasing a corporation's tax burden will not create an incentive to hire.

How can you say it is Obama's reckless spending? Congress votes on every bill and I do believe it is evenly split right now. Seems both parties are at fault. Everybill that gets passed has so much pork on both sides that it usually outspends the original bill. I am so tired of he said/she said. Both parties are to blame and currently are cry babies.

What she means is the legal tax cuts that corporations get and are offered. What until eveyone's taxes are increased due to socialized heathcare and Obama's reckless spending kicks in.
