— The Beloit Snappers were the victims of a walkoff blast in Midwest League baseball here Monday afternoon.

Right fielder Randal Grichuk connected with two outs in the 11th inning for his first home run as a Kernel to give Cedar Rapids a 5-4 win over Beloit, which had scored in the ninth to force a 4-4 tie and extra innings.

In addition to his solo homer, Grichuk had a diving catch that kept the Snappers from scoring on the top of the 11th.

Beloit took a short-lived 3-2 lead in the seventh on Reggie Williams’ RBI single and run that scored on Lance Ray’s fly out that led to force out at second base. After to Kernels regained the lead at 4-3, Beloit tied it when pinch-hitter Derek McCullum walked and scored on a wild pitch in the ninth.

Ray also had a fourth-inning home run that lifted Beloit into a 1-1 that lasted until the Cedar Rapids scored single runs in the fifth and sixth.

The loss dropped Beloit to 17-19 in the West Division’s second-half race.

After completing a two-week road trip, the Snappers open a four-game home series against Kane County at 7 tonight.
