— Janesville Craig High School was held to one hit Friday en route to an 8-0 loss to Sun Prairie in Big Eight Conference softball.

The loss snaps Craig’s four-game winning streak and drops it to 4-3 in the Big Eight and 4-5 overall. Sun Prairie improves to 5-2 in the league.

Stephanie Perleberg notched Craig’s lone hit off Sun Prairie sophomore starter Kristen Hoppman.

“We hit the ball decently,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “But we hit it right to them. I thought we swung the bats well. We had only two strikeouts.’’

While the Cougars were struggling at the plate, the Cardinals pounded out 13 hits—eight coming from their No. 2 through No. 4 hitters.

“Their 2-3-4 hitters just killed us,” Bayreuther said. “They were had six RBIs.’’

Craig trailed 2-0 until the fifth inning when the Cards erupted for three runs on three hits off starter Paige Weber to take a 5-0 lead. Sun Prairie added three more runs on four hits in the sixth for the final result.

Craig travels to Verona today for a 10 a.m. doubleheader.
