Janesville Parker had just enough offense, pitching and defense Friday to earn a 1-0 Big Eight Conference baseball victory at Madison Memorial.

The Vikings (7-2 overall, 5-2 Big Eight) scored their only run in the fourth inning. Pitcher Kyle Johnson walked, and Will Theisen entered as a courtesy runner. Theisen eventually stole second and, with two outs, Brady Brandt delivered a hit up the middle that drove in Theisen.

Johnson worked all seven innings, allowing just four hits while walking two and striking out three.

“Both pitchers threw strikes, and for the most part both teams made plays in the field,” said Memorial coach Brian Martin.

Martin said the Spartans threatened to score twice, the last time in the seventh when Memorial had a runner at third base with two outs before a groundout ended the game.

The second-place Vikings host Big Eight leader Sun Prairie at 5 p.m. Monday at Riverside Park in a makeup from a recent rainout.
