— Janesville Craig High School notched a season-high 20 hits to defeat Waunakee 18-4 in six innings, but fell to Beaver Dam, 7-4, Saturday in a nonconference baseball doubleheader.

“We swung the bats really well and our approach to the game was excellent,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said.

The split leaves the Cougars 6-5 for the season.

Craig pitchers Brandon Hughes and Brett Pickarts combined for the victory. Hughes allowed all four runs on six hits through the first three innings.

In Game 2, Beaver Dam banged out 12 hits off four Craig pitchers. Craig held a 2-1 lead after two innings, but Beaver Dam took a 4-2 lead with a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth and led the rest of the way.
