JANESVILLE

It was good news and bad news Saturday for Janesville Parker High School in a Big Eight Conference baseball doubleheader at Riverside Park.

The Vikings played errorless baseball and defeated Madison West 5-2 in the opener, but committed a pair of first-inning errors in the nightcap en route to a 10-8 defeat.

The Vikings fall to 4-2 in the Big Eight and 6-2 overall.

In the opener, Parker held a 3-0 lead after five innings. The Lancers scored twice in the sixth, but the Vikings bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory.

Trent Kobs’ first-inning suicide squeeze bunt gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead. Jeff Henke and Chase Lee added RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings respectively for Parker.

Parker starter Kyle Johnson allowed two runs on six hits through six innings to gain the victory. Trent Kobs allowed one hit in one inning of relief to notch the save.

In the nightcap, a pair of Parker errors in the first led West to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

“We did things we have not done all year,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “I was a little disappointed. We should have won both games.’’

Parker rallied for six runs in the fifth inning and added a run in the sixth for a 7-6 lead, but the Regents scored for runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal Parker’s fate.

Decker Thompson, Taran Kobs and Johnson ripped RBI singles in Parker’s sixth inning, while Trent Kobs popped an RBI double.

Parker hosts Madison La Follette at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Park
