Craig baseball goes 50-50 in doubleheader

SUN PRAIRIE — Janesville Craig split a doubleheader with Madison La Follette in Big Eight Conference baseball here Saturday.

The Cougars lost the opner, 4-3, but bounced back to take the nightcap, 13-10. Craig goes to 2-4 in the Big Eight.

In the opener, a pair of throwing errors led to two La Follette runs including the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

In Game 2, the Cougars trailed 4-0, but produced seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Craig had five hits and six walks off four La Follette pitchers.

La Follette scored three runs in the fifth to tie it, 7-7, but Cameron Wright hit a two-run homer as part of a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth to put the Cougars ahead for good.

Craig relievers Brett Pickerts and Jameson Henning combined to hold off the Lancers through the final 2 2/3 innings.

“Pickerts came in and did a phenominal job,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said of Pickerts’ first varsity appearence. “He got us out of jam in the fifth and Jameson Henning got us the save.’’

The Cougars travel to Sun Prairie to face Madison East at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
