Two individual winners and several other strong performances led Janesville Parker’s girls track team to a third-place finish Thursday in the 13th Parker Invitational at Monterey Stadium.

Erika Whitson won the pole vault at 9 feet, 9 inches, and Paige Demos ran to victory in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.34 seconds for the Vikings.

Verona won the seven-team meet with 192.83 points, followed by Waukesha West with 155 and Parker with 82.83.

“For us that was a tremendous effort,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. “We want quality (teams) at our invites, and we had that today.”

Lehmann also pointed out several other strong performances by the Vikings.

In the discus, Bethany Moen finished second with a toss of 94-11, which Lehmann said was a personal best.

Whitson’s winning height in the pole vault also was a personal record, as was Sami Shelton’s fifth-place time of 53.04 seconds in the 300 hurdles.

Brooke King finished third in the 3,200, and the Vikings’ 1,600 relay team comprised of Ashley Hartwig, Caitlin Warren, Karlissa Mcatee and Sadie Johnson also finished third.

Parker returns to the track on Tuesday with a Big Eight Conference dual at Madison East.
