Whitewater Warhawks combine for 22 hits in 2 games

— UW-Whitewater pounded out 22 hits in two games to sweep host UW-Stout, 11-5 and 9-5, Monday in WIAC baseball.

The victories lift No. 14-ranked Whitewater to 18-5 overall and 11-3 in the WIAC. Stout falls to 9-15, 4-8.

The Warhawks’ Daniel Putnam collected five hits and two RBIs in eight at-bats, Jeff Donovan had four hits in 11 at-bats and Sam Keller tallied four hits and two RBIs in five at-bats for both games.

In the opener, Andrew Eichstaedt ripped a two-run homer in the first as Whitewater rolled to a 4-0 lead. The Warhawks, added three runs in the third for a 7-1 lead.

In Game 2, the Warhawks broke 3-3 first-inning tie with two runs in the third to keep the lead for good.

Justin Lambert (3-1) allowed one run in six hits in the opener to gain the victory. Five pitchers combined to hit nine batters overall.

Kyle Lee (3-1) gained the Game 2 victory, allowing five runs in seven hits through five innings. Whitewater relievers Mathew Roberts and Rob Coe pitched two innings apiece and allowed one hit each to seal the victory.
