JANESVILLE If you want to dig in and help a local garden club while enjoying a few laughs, check out the Bower City Garden Club’s Joy of Connections luncheon featuring humorist and motivational speaker Mary Pierce.
The annual event Thursday, April 28, is the group’s main fundraiser to support local horticulture scholarships and beautification projects, said Ann Duesterbeck, event co-chairwoman.
Pierce, whose website is appropriately laughlady.com, since 1996 has been providing fun and inspiration to corporate and community audiences at women’s health and wellness events, caregiver and senior gatherings plus church retreats.
A Wisconsin resident, Pierce has written three books of inspirational humor for women. Published by Zondervan/Hapercollins, they are:
-- “When Did I Stop Being Barbie and Become Mrs. Potato Head?”
-- “Confessions of a Prayer Wimp”
-- “When Did My Life Become a Game of Twister?”
Pierce has degrees in education and business from the University of Minnesota and University of Redlands and has been a stockbroker, teacher and corporate trainer plus radio co-host. She is enrolled in graduate work in mental health counseling.
She and her husband, Terry, have six children and seven grandchildren and share their home with their West Highland “terrorist” Zoey.
