Although Janesville Parker’s boys tennis team came up short against Madison East in a Big Eight Conference dual meet Thursday, coach Mike Fuhrmann said his team took a step forward.

The host Purgolders swept through the singles and doubles in straight sets en route to a 7-0 victory, but that did not tell the whole story, according to Fuhrmann.

“Even though the scores don’t indicate it, I really thought we played our best tennis of the season, so far,” Fuhrmann said. “We were hitting our forehands and backhands hard, and I really think these kids are starting to get it.

“East lost to Middleton, 4-3, and those are two of the best teams in our conference. I couldn’t be more pleased with our effort today.”

Parker is scheduled to host a quadrangular today at Palmer Parker, with Fort Atkinson, Beloit Memorial and Lake Geneva Badger scheduled to compete.
