— Experience will be the key this season for Janesville Parker’s boys golf team.

The Vikings, who finished fifth at last year’s Big Eight Conference Tournament, return five players with varsity experience.

Parker opened the season by finishing eighth at the Icebreaker Invitational, and the Vikings are scheduled to play today and tomorrow in the 36-hole Wisconsin Dells Invitational. Round one will be played at the Andy North designed Trappers Turn Course, while Saturday’s round is at Christmas Mountain Resort.

“The weather forecast isn’t the greatest for the two days, but there isn’t much we can do about it,” Parker coach Ron Cramer said. “Hopefully, we can get the two rounds in because those are two challenging courses.

“We’ve got 38 kids out, which is a real good number. I’ve got one senior, Tyler Brossard, so we’re still going to be a pretty young team.

“As long as we keep improving, we should be alright.”

Brossard is a four-year varsity player, while juniors Dustin Richards and Taylor Braun are three-year varsity players.

“Dustin has been playing pretty well, and he was our low man (85) at the Icebreaker,” Cramer said. “Tyler is a pretty consistent playerl, and Taylor played a lot of golf over the summer to get ready for the season.”

Juniors Peyton Graham and Charlie Grafft, who both have varsity experience, round out the top five for the Vikings.

Juniors Sam Fugate and Andrew Schroder are the top two junior varsity players, and Cramer expects both to see varsity action this season.

“It’s always good to have competition to see who will be playing varsity,” Cramer said. “That makes kids push each other to be better.

“We’re excited about the season. Now, we just need it to warm up a little bit.”
