— Janesville Parker High School lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to visiting Sun Prairie in eight innings Wednesday in Big Eight Conference softball.

Kristen Hoppman laced an RBI triple to right to give Sun Prairie the victory. Parker’s Jensen Henke hit an RBI single in the seventh to put the game into extra innings.

Parker erased a 2-0 deficit with a three-run rally in the seventh.

Ashley Ross delivered a bases-loaded double that cleared the bases to give Parker a 3-2 lead. Sun Prairie’s Heidi Morrical ripped a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh to put Sun Prairie ahead 4-3.

Hoppman, Sun Prairie’s starting pitcher, allowed five hits and notched 11 strikeouts. Ross, Parker’s pitcher, allowed seven hits and notched six strikeouts while taking the loss.

“I think the biggest thing tonight was the 11 strikeouts,” Parker coach Jenni Seisser said. “Our bats did not wake up until the sixth.’’

The Vikings are scheduled to face Janesville Craig on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Dawson Ball Field.

Craig defeats Middleton

Make it two straight for Janesville Craig’s softball team.

The Cougars, behind a clutch two-out, two-run single by Autum Sullivan in the top of fifth, rallied for a 6-4 Big Eight Conference victory at Middleton.

Craig High dropped its first four games of the season but has won back-to-back Big Eight games to improve to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big Eight.

“Other than one bad inning today where we had an error and a couple mental mistakes, I thought we played a pretty good game,” Craig High coach Dan Bayreuther said.

“We got some clutch hits, and Paige (Weber) did a nice job on the mound after I brought her back in. It was a good win.”

The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, but Middleton took a one-run lead with four runs in the fourth. Craig High took the lead for good in the fifth as Sullivan drove in Leigh Grall and Stephanie Kalish with a sharp single.

Kalish finished with two doubles, while Haley Bayreuther and Stephanie Perleberg had two hits each.

Craig High will play crosstown rival Janesville Parker on Friday at Dawson Ball Field. The game, which was originally scheduled for the Youth Sports Complex, will start at 4:30 p.m.
