— Janesville Parker’s softball team played host Verona even for four innings, but one bad inning doomed the Vikings.

Verona broke through with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning—when the Wildcats had four hits and capitalized on two Parker errors—on the way to a 3-1 Big Eight Conference victory.

Parker scored its only run in the sixth inning when Ashley Ross singled to drive in Natalie McDonald, who had hit a one-out double. Jacque Ludois’ sacrifice bunt moved McDonald to third.

Verona’s three-run fifth was highlighted by Taylor Maier’s two-run single.

“I just wish we had that fifth inning back,” said Parker coach Jenni Seisser. “That definitely killed us.”

Seisser praised the batting of McDonald and Ross, who each had two hits to combine for the Vikings’ four hits in the game.

Parker sophomore starter Erin Muehlenkamp worked

4 1/3 innings. Ross came in to pitch the final 2 2/3 innings.

There were no walks by

either team.

Parker (2-4 overall, 2-1 Big Eight) next plays at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against Sun Prairie at the Youth Sports Complex. On Friday, the Vikings play Craig at 4:30 p.m. on the same field.

“We definitely have to come back this week and play more solid defense and continue to hit,” Seisser said.
