Snappers top Bandits with late comeback

DAVENPORT, IA — The Beloit Snappers rallied for three runs in the eight inning to defeat the Quad Cities Bandits, 5-3, Sunday in Midwest League baseball.

Andy Leer singled to lead off the Snappers’ eighth. Pinch runner Wang-Wei Lin scored on pitcher Angel De Jesus’s throwing error and Daniel Santana, who reached third on the throwing error, scored on Lance Ray’s single. Ray scored the third run of the inning on Derek McCallum’s sacrifice fly.

Snappers reliever Jose Gonzalez pitched a scoreless ninth to record the save. Reliever Michael Tonkin (1-0), who Gonzalez replaced in the eighth, gained the victory, allowing one run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Arcia had three hits in four at-bats to lead the Snappers’

12-hit attack. Santana, Gunner Glad and Ray followed with two hits apiece.

Beloit starts a three-game series with visiting Clinton at 7 tonight at Pohlman Field.
