Man found dead in the Sugar River
According to a news release from the Brodhead Police Department, a person reported seeing the man’s body at about 10:45 a.m. in the Sugar River Mill Race, a manmade tributary of the Sugar River that flows through the west side of Brodhead. The body was in the water adjacent to Putnam Park, just south of Highway F, which crosses the Sugar River, police said.
Authorities are withholding the man’s name pending notification of family.
Investigators believe there was no foul play, but a further investigation into the death is pending, according to Brodhead Police Chief Tom Moczynski.
The Green County Sheriff’s Department, the Green County Coroner’s Office and Brodhead police conducted an initial investigation Saturday at Putnam Park, police said.
Brodhead police and Green County Sheriff’s office on Saturday would not give the Gazette additional details on how the man could have ended up in the river, or whether authorities had been looking for anyone missing.
The Gazette was unable to reach the Green County coroner.
Brodhead Fire Department and Brodhead EMS responded to the incident.
