Craig boys tennis takes second in quad
JANESVILLE Janesville Craig High School's boys tennis team opened the season with a second-place finish here Saturday in the Cougar Quad at Palmer Park.
Oregon won the four-team meet with a 3-0 record, followed by Craig at 2-1. Monroe was third at 1-2, followed by Elkhorn at 0-3.
Oregon defeated Craig, 5-2, in the first round. The Cougars then notched 4-3 wins over Monroe and Elkhorn.
Scott Catlin and Sam dePoutiloff led the Cougars with two wins at No. 3 doubles. DePoutiloff then won at No. 3 singles, and Catlin won at No. 4 singles.
"Our kids played well and played hard," Craig coach Justin Long said. "It was a good good showing."
The Cougars begin Big Eight play at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday against Sun Prairie at Palmer Park.
