No 122

Referendum: Should the village discontinue the use of emergency sirens all together rather than spend approximately $56,000 to add more siren locations enabling them to be heard outdoors throughout the village?

*No 280

Yes 162

— Genoa City will continue its mosquito-spraying program and add more emergency sirens throughout the village based on voting in two referendum questions during Tuesday’s election.

Installing more sirens throughout the village is expected to cost nearly $56,000, according to information included in the referendum. It’s unclear how much the mosquito-spraying program costs the village annually.

The measures were an effort to save the village money.

Also in Genoa City, John Wrzeszcz beat incumbent Barry Goad 257-167 in the race for the village presidency.
