Middleton rolls against Janesville Parker tennis
Janesville Parker’s boys tennis team simply didn’t match up with Middleton in its season opener on Tuesday.
The Cardinals shut out the host Vikings, 7-0.
Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann knew his young squad faced a tall task against Middleton, which is usually ranked among the state’s elite teams and is a perennial Big Eight Conference power.
“It was a big-time learning experience for some of the guys,” said Fuhrmann. “We just weren’t at their level today. They’re a great team.”
Fuhrmann said seven of his players made their varsity debuts.
The Parker coach said he was particularly pleased with the play of No. 2 singles player Ian Weiland, who lost to Middleton’s Ben Luskin, 6-2, 6-1.
The Vikings are scheduled to compete Friday in a quadrangular at Fort Atkinson.
