Janesville Parker’s softball teams have been hurt by errors the past two seasons.

The Vikings played errorless ball Tuesday and watched the opponent throw the ball away.

A throwing error with two outs in the top of the seventh allowed two runs to score, and the visiting Vikings went to a 3-2 victory over Madison East in a Big Eight opener.

Parker sophomore Erin Muehlenkamp pitched the first four innings and went

2-for-3, including a second-inning double. She scored on a groundout by Ashley Ross.

In the seventh, Muehlenkamp led off with a single, and Lindsey Clauer reached on an error on a sacrifice attempt. Cierra Carney then reached on an error on another sacrifice attempt to load the bases.

After two strikeouts appeared to cut the rally attempt short, Jensen Henke grounded to third, and the throw to first sailed past the first baseman, allowing two runners to score.

That was the third Purgolder error, while the Vikings

didn’t commit one.

“I told the girls last night that our number of errors was ridiculous,” said Parker coach Jenni Seisser. “It’s really been that way the last two years. We’ve lost a lot of those games by one and two runs.

“I set a goal of two or fewer errors.”

The Vikings, who are 1-3 overall, play at home Thursday against Madison West.

Craig (0-3) took an early

2-0 lead on RBI singles by Leigh Grall and Kylie Clark, but Beloit tied the game with runs in the third and fourth.

“We played better today than we did on Saturday, but we left too many on base,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “But there was improvement, and that’s the most important thing. If we can keep improving, we’ll be alright.”

Paige Weber pitched well for the Cougars despite taking the loss. The junior struck out seven and walked three.

Craig plays at Madison
