Janesville Jets grounded in opener
An early lead wasn’t enough for the Janesville Jets on Thursday night.
Joe Kalisz’s goal at 3:32 of the second period proved to be the game-winner as the St. Louis Bandits held off the Jets, 3-2, in the opening game of the best-of-five NAHL North Division semifinal series.
Ross Mauermann picked up the 100th point of his career to give Janesville a 1-0 lead at 4:32 of the first, but St. Louis tied the game at 11:09 on an even-strength goal by R.J. Kleiman.
The Bandits, the North Division regular-season champions, pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third before John Olen cut the deficit to one with less than a minute to play.
Janesville’s David Jacobson made 24 saves, while Tom Comunale made 27 stops for St. Louis.
Game two of the series is tonight in St. Louis.
