Janesville Craig High used the Big Eight Challenge cross country meet Tuesday as a learning experience.

With the Midwest Invitational just three days ago, and the Eagle Invitational at UW-Parkside coming up Saturday, several Cougar runners were held out of Tuesday’s meet.

Madison La Follette won the boys competition with 28 points. Craig was second with 38.

Madison West won the girls competition with 35 points. Craig was fourth with 71.

Hunter Salmon was Craig’s top finisher in the boys meet. He was third in 17:01.

Katie Bagley led the Craig girls with a seventh-place finish in 16:14.

Parker boys second

At the Big Eight Challenge in Sun Prairie, David Tyler and Taran Kobs finished second and third, respectively, to pace Janesville Parker to a second-place finish.

Tyler finished in 16 minutes, 47 seconds and Kobs followed in 16:56.

Sun Prairie won the meet with 33 points. Parker finished with 39, and Madison East had 52 to finish third.

“If we would have had one more runner, we would have surprised Sun Prairie,” Parker coach Dan Bouska said. “The (Sun Prairie) coach didn’t think we were that good.’’

Parker girls results were not reported.
