— Cooper Smith ended Milton High’s hopes of a Badger South Conference boys soccer title Tuesday night.

The Oregon forward scored seven minutes into overtime to lift the Panthers to a 1-0 victory over the Red Hawks.

Oregon improved to 5-0 in the Badger South and clinched the outright title with one conference game remaining. Milton finished 4-2 in the Badger South and is 12-4-1 overall.

“We had our chances,” Milton coach Ryan Wagner said. “In the second half, we had a number of corner kicks where we had opportunities in front of the net but couldn’t convert.

“It was a pretty physical game throughout, probably too physical at times.”

Joel Addie nearly put Milton on the scoreboard midway through the second half, but his header off a corner kick was grabbed by Oregon goalie Brent Johnson.

Johnson finished with seven saves, while Milton’s Jon Haas was forced to make only one save in 87 minutes of action.

Milton’s only other conference loss was 1-0 to Madison Edgewood, a team Oregon beat by the same score.

The Red Hawks wraps up the regular season by hosting sixth-ranked Kenosha Bradford on Thursday night.
