— Madison West’s girls golf team ended Middleton’s hopes Thursday of sweeping Big Eight dual meet and conference tournament titles for the second straight season.

Led by medalist Britt McNett-Emerich, the Regents won the Big Eight Conference Tournament at Evansville Golf Club on Thursday with a 350 total. Middleton, which won dual meet titles the last two seasons and the conference tournament title a year ago, was two shots back at 352. Janesville Parker finished a respectable third at 380.

McNett-Emerich won the individual title with a 6-over-par 78, one shot ahead of Madison East’s Alex Douglas, who had 79.

Jennifer Polglaze had a 90 to lead Parker, while Amanda Becker and Taylor Utzig each shot 93.

“We were very happy with our finish,” Parker coach Mary Ross said. “Our goal coming in was to beat Sun Prairie, which we did. Jennifer had a real nice round, considering the conditions with the wind and all, and Amanda and Taylor were right behind her.

“There are still some things to work on before our regional meet on Tuesday, but our junior varsity team won the conference title and we have a great group of freshmen. The program is in good shape.”

Ashley Hermann’s 102 paced Janesville Craig, which finished eighth at 450.
