West downs Janesville Craig soccer
Third-ranked Madison West put the clamps on Janesville Craig’s boys soccer team here Thursday night.
The Regents, behind two goals in the first 20 minutes, controlled the action en route to a 3-0 win over Craig High in a Big Eight Conference game.
West forced Craig (4-10, 1-6) goalie Peter Cooney to make 21 saves.
“West has a quality team,” Craig coach Charlies Friedrich said. “They’re ranked where they’re at for a reason.
“As has been the case all season for us, we played pretty well in the second half. We just have to figure out a way to start better.”
Craig hosts a tournament on Saturday featuring Janesville Parker and Beloit Memorial. Parker and Beloit will open play at 8:30 a.m. followed by Parker and Craig at 10:30 a.m. The Cougars and Purple Knights will wrap up the tournament at 12:30 p.m.

The Spartans scored three times in the first 25 minutes of play en route to their shutout victory in a Big Eight Conference game at Mansfield Stadium.
Parker, 3-9-0 overall and 0-6 in the conference, got 12 saves from goalkeeper Owen Ahlstrom.
“We’re starting to learn what it’s going to take to play with good teams such as Memorial,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “But we’re obviously not at their level right now.
