— Basketball season still is almost two months away, but Evansville High senior Dylan Erickson has made news on the hardcourt by signing this week with Ashford University, an NAIA school in Clinton, Iowa.

Erickson, currently an end on Evansville’s football team, will join the Saints’ basketball program in the fall of 2011.

“Our program is very excited to have Dylan’s commitment,” Ashford coach Oliver Drake said. “He has all the tools to be a very good player in our program. He possesses everything that we look for in our players on and off the court.”

In two varsity seasons, the 6-foot-2 Erickson has helped Evansville to 20 wins in the Rock Valley Conference. He averaged 10.8 points, five assists and five rebounds a game in the Blue Devils’ 10-win season last school year.

Erickson also was a member of the AAU Wisconsin Shooting Stars the past summer.

“He had a real good summer in playing a nice AAU team, and it was good thing for him,” Evansville coach Chris Wag-ner said. “And we’re thrilled for him to get this opportunity.”
