Janesville Craig’s girls volleyball team climbed above .500 in the Big Eight Conference on Tuesday night by sweeping past Madison Memorial.

The Cougars won by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-23 in improving to 3-2 in conference play.

“The last two games were very close with neither team getting ahead by more than one or two points,” Craig High coach Blake Budrow said. “So it was nice to see our girls pull through at the end in both games.

“We’re really starting to come along offensively because Emma Becher and Katie Villa, our setters, are starting to understand where to go to with the ball and how the opposing team is setting up.”

The Cougars are at defending Big Eight champion Middleton on Thursday night.

n Verona 3, Parker 0—The visiting Vikings ran into a buzzsaw in losing three straight to the Wildcats in a Big Eight Conference match.

Parker (10-10, 2-3) played Verona tough in the first game, but struggled in games two and three.

“Verona is the best team we’ve played this season, by far,” Parker High coach Dave Lehmann said. “They keep everything in play and are very athletic.

“We didn’t play that badly. Our serving was pretty good all three games, but Verona was just very good tonight.”

Lehmann was pleased with the play of Samantha Shelton at the net, and with Lindsey Hoff and Natalie McDonald in the back row.

Parker hosts Sun Prairie on Thursday night.
