— Just when you think there are more rotten people in this world than good ones, you find out you’re wrong.

Two Whitewater residents blocked the getaway car of thieves Sunday afternoon in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot on Deerfield Drive, according to Janesville police.

Three Fort Atkinson males were arrested including two teens—15 and 16—on charges of theft. They are being held at the Rock County Juvenile Detention Hall.

Johnny J. Hill, 21, also was arrested on charges of being party to the crime of theft and released with an Oct. 25 court date, police said.

While a 32-year-old Janesville woman was loading groceries into her car at 3:44 p.m., two juveniles approached her and asked her for the time.

“When she checked to get the time, they took the purse out of her shopping cart and fled to a vehicle they had parked nearby,’’ said Sgt. Aaron Ellis.

When the witnesses saw what was happening, they used their car to block the thieves, who then smashed into their car, he said.

The teen suspects then fled on foot but were caught shortly afterward at Walgreen’s at Kettering Street and Milton Avenue, when they were taken into custody, Ellis said.

Nobody was hurt and damage to vehicles is unknown, police said.
