UW-Whitewater rolls over Kentucky team

UW-Whitewater posted 531 yards of offense en route to a 37-7 victory over host Campbellsville University in nonconference Division III football Saturday.


Whitewater (3-0), ranked No. 1 in the D3football.com poll, had three running backs finish with 100-plus-yard performances for the second straight game. Brooker Stanley gained 116 yards on 18 carries. Levell Coppage gained 114 yards, and Antwan Anderson 104 yards on 14 carries apiece.


Whitewater opened the scoring on Matt Blanchard’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Rusch. Coppage added TD runs of eight and six yards to give the Warhawks a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.


Campbellsville (2-2) scored its only TD on a 10-play, 80-yard drive to close the first half to trail, 21-7.


In the second half, Blanchard connected with Bernie Tamsett on a five-yard touchdown pass, Josh Williams was credited with a safety and Antwan Anderson scored on a 1-yard run to complete the Warhawks’ scoring.


Campbellsville gained 64 yards rushing and 231 yards passing. The Tigers made 12 first downs to Whitewater’s 32.


The Warhawks have a bye next Saturday and will open the WIAC season Thursday, Sept. 30 at UW-Platteville.
