— Janesville Parker didn’t repeat as the Delavan-Darien Invitational champion, but coach Dave Lehmann couldn’t complain about his volleyball team’s effort Saturday.

The Vikings finished second to Wilmot in the six-team tournament, going 4-1. The champion Panthers defeated the Vikings, 21-15, 21-14.

Lehmann singled out the front-court play of Paige Demos (42 kills), Samatha Shelton (28 kills) and Ashley Hartwig (22 kills). In the backcourt, Nicole Popovich (eight aces and 18 digs) and Lindsey Hoff (six aces and 19 digs) led the way.

“We were the defending champions,” Lehmann said. “The kids were disappointed that we didn’t win it, but to finish second among a bunch of teams was good. The kids played well.”

The Vikings get back to Big Eight Conference play Tuesday night when they travel to Verona. The Wildcats knocked off defending conference champion Middleton last week.
